Goalie Warm-up Routine with Spinfire Lacrosse Trainer

Over the past twenty years of coaching lacrosse goalies, I have witnessed how rare it is for them to get a good warm-up before practices, games, or tournaments. This is one of the main reasons I wanted to bring the Spinfire Trainer to the lacrosse market.

The Spinfire Trainer is the perfect tool to provide goalies with an effective warm-up routine to improve their performance and readiness for games or practices.

Key Steps:

  1. Set Up Equipment:

    • Place the Spinfire Trainer approximately 10-11 yards away from the goalie.

    • Ensure the trainer is connected to the app for precise shot placement.

  2. Warm-up Routine:

    • Start with shots to the top right corner, stick side high.

    • Progress to top middle shots at the goalie's head.

    • Move to off stick side high shots for accuracy and consistency.

    • Transition to stick side hip shots, varying the height and location.

    • Work on off-hip shots, adjusting speed incrementally for different areas.

    • Practice low corner shots and five-hole shots.

    • Utilize manual mode for customized shot settings if needed.

  3. Speed Adjustment:

    • Begin with speeds around 10-11 and gradually increase to 12-14.

    • Speeds range from 20 to 80 miles per hour, adjust based on goalie's comfort and skill level.

  4. Focus on Technique:

    • As a coach, concentrate on the goalie's form and technique during the warm-up.

    • Provide feedback on strengths and areas for improvement.

  5. Repetition and Muscle Memory:

    • Encourage goalies to repeat movements to develop muscle memory.

    • Use the trainer for off-season training to enhance skills and reaction time.

Cautionary Notes:

  • Ensure the safety of the goalie during the warm-up routine.

  • Monitor the speed and intensity of shots to prevent injury.

  • Communicate with the goalie to understand their comfort level and adjust the routine accordingly.

Tips for Efficiency:

  • Use different spots on the goal to simulate game scenarios.

  • Gradually increase the speed of shots to challenge the goalie's quickness.

  • Incorporate variety in shot locations to identify strengths and weaknesses.

  • Encourage goalies to focus on ball tracking and quick reactions.

  • Utilize the Spinfire Trainer in various settings for flexibility in training locations.

By using the Spinfire Lacrosse Trainer, and following the steps above, goalies can benefit from a structured warm-up routine that enhances their skills and performance on the field.
